Web Design

One of the topics that we have covered in class that I have found to be most interesting would be web development and design. One of the most important things to keep in mind while building a web page is how aesthetically pleasing it is to look at. It must work properly while also catching the users eye.

I can’t tell you how many time I have clicked on a webpage and when I found it to be too hard to use, I just click right out. There are millions of websites and most likely some that have the same information as yours, so it’s very important to stand out to the viewer. Some basic considerations to your web design may be:

  • Navigation
  • Layout
  • Headers
  • Footers
  • Credibility

There are many aspects to consider when building you site such as: which font to use, which colors will look best together, how you will lay out your page, etc. You must also consider the content in which you are displaying and how the audience would most like the page setup. With all of these in mind, it’s easier for a beginner to use a template on a website such as WordPress or Wix that will have pre-made websites that you can change to fit your own specific needs.

Once you have the design of your website figured out, it’s time to publish your site. But in order to get your site noticed, you need good SEO tactics to drive traffic to you. The 5 SEO tips from the Definitive Guide to SEO in 2019 are:

Publish “Research Content”

Data driven information is very important to bloggers and journalists. They want to see facts and evidence as to what your saying. If you can provide graphs and statistics, your page will be more likely to show up in a consumers search.

Create Visual Content (Especially “Concept Visuals”)

Pictures make it easier for readers to visualize what their taking in as they read information. Some articles are even completely made up of pictures for an easier way of consuming large amounts of information. Infographics, graphs and photos are a great way to boost your SEO.

Encourage Comments and Community

The more people that engage with your site, the more likely it will perform better in SEO. The more comments and shares you get makes your site all the more likely to rank higher than other sites.

Build Backlinks as a Podcast Guest

With podcasts on the rise, it’s become a great way to build links. You can easily share information with a whole new audience and link them right to your site. Almost 90 million Americans listen to podcasts monthly, which means it could be a huge market for advertising.

Prune Zombie Pages

Last but not least is zombie pages. Zombie pages are the parts to your site that don’t add any value to your overall site. You may have many smaller articles that can be condensed into one major article or categorical pages. Once you do that, you can increase or even multiply your site activity.

Your sites clean and attractive design combined with good SEO tools will be sure to drive traffic to your web page. So make sure to keep them in mind when building your next site.
